Mott MacDonald partners with Netwrix to offer data classification technology to clients
Mott MacDonald formed a strategic partnership with Netwrix to bring our data classification product, Insight Search, to organisations that want to effectively find and organise their files and data. The product extends value from document management platforms through an enhanced search capability to yield ever more relevant results.
Mott MacDonald had already deployed the Insight Search product to enhance efficiency and productivity in terms of information retrieval, primarily via its SharePoint environment.
Using the existing SharePoint system, our teams are able to find more related documents which have been produced and approved by anyone anywhere in the organisation. These results can be filtered and refined by numerous categories including: sector, discipline, format, date produced, and author. Insight Search allows all approved files within its databases to be instantly retrievable and used with confidence.
The product combines two main components:
- Data classification, auto tagging, structuring and searching software – created by Netwrix
- A taxonomy of confirmed built environment, infrastructure, construction and asset management industry terms – created by Mott MacDonald
The bespoke taxonomy of confirmed industry terms we created over several years functions as a best practice dictionary, and supports our our teams in providing consultancy services globally within the built environment, infrastructure, construction and asset management sectors.
The Netwrix software, which is based on machine learning, uses this taxonomy to automatically review and tag documents to then automatically structure selected databases and the data within those. Users can then search for these automatically tagged documents via their existing SharePoint search facility.
This has led to an estimated £1.4M efficiency saving to the business each year over our previous file searching system. We continue to monitor the direct time and cost savings from the system’s use.
Our digital business partnered with Netwrix to adapt this product to enable other organisations to unlock the same proven benefits, solving the problem of people failing to find all relevant documents when using search tools.
Matt Middleton-Leal, Netwrix EMEA general manager:
