Act with conviction
Urban growth and ageing infrastructure in Christchurch has resulted in increased sewer overflows over the last 10 years. The city council wanted to see how its sewer system was performing in real time to improve efficiency and reduce overflow incidents. We determined the optimum location of new sensors, resulting in just 42 needing to be installed across the city’s wastewater network to provide the required insight.
Moata, our cloud-based analytics and visualisation service, collects data from the sensors on flow rates, water levels and pressures, enabling control room personnel to monitor performance and location of overflow incidents and make faster, better decisions. Alarms set to be triggered by surcharged states within the sewer system prompt swift, targeted responses.
Not only did we bring major efficiencies to wastewater network operations, we also helped Christchurch recover more quickly after the devastating 2011 earthquake. Moata pinpointed damage, allowing authorities to fix leaks and restore services faster.
